Almost as soon as I became a Licensed Massage Therapist, I was told that I ‘needed’ a BioMat® for my business. Not knowing what that meant, I ignored that piece of unsolicited advice and began to build my practice. Then, my clients started telling me about their experiences with the BioMat® ® and how it helped them, so I began to listen. People were telling me they LOVED their BioMat® and how much it helped to mitigate - and sometimes completely alleviate - their pain, swelling and discomfort. I did some research, and this is some of what I learned:
What is the BioMat® ?
In its simplest form, the BioMat® is a bed of stones, but not just any stones; the entire mat is FILLED with amethyst crystals and some even have black tourmaline gemstones – both of which are known to emit negative ions. Negative ions are invisible, odorless molecules that we come into contact with in nature, including the ocean surf, around waterfalls and being in a forest. Negative ions are helpful to bring you out of ‘fight or flight’ and into ‘rest and restore’. And couldn’t we all use some of that?!
The BioMat® also has a heating feature utilizing far infrared rays (FIR), which allows the body to relax (on the lower temperature setting) or, you can turn it up to incure a full detox effect. The difference between a typical heating pad and a FIR device is vast! FIR penetrates deep into your tissues, promoting circulatory accelaeration, which triggers a healing response by the body at the cellular level. Old fashioned heating pads only heat the surfact of your skin, so very little 'healing' acturally occurs.
The BioMat® ’s unique medical and therapeutic properties are based on Nobel prize-winning research into ionic channels and the same infrared technology that NASA identified as the safest and most beneficial type of light wave. By producing deep-penetrating, far infrared rays along with negative ions that activate the body at the molecular level, the BioMat® is capable of administering deep soothing experience.
What is the BioMat® good for?
Most of our clients present with some type of immune deficiency, whether it stems from an auto-immune condition, healing after surgery or perhaps they're battling something odious like cancer, so the healing properties of the BioMat® are suitable for those types of maladies. But, the BioMat® can also help with milder issues like muscle aches & pains, joint swelling, insomnia, stress (a killer!), minor sprains or strains, etc. And most of our clients will make time to meditate or listen to calming soundtracks while on their BioMat®, but if you're inclined to get some work done on your mat, by all means (but we think relaxing is a better idea)!
